Message to my friends in the USA

9/11 never forget
11/9 always regret

message to my friends
of the United States of America
only in English

Dear Blogfamily

two or three times a week, as you know, I publish a post about beauty and male eroticism, that we all love deeply, but the election of last Tuesday left me snapped and shocked. I'm sorry, but I'm not in my erotic usual mood to make such posts as if nothing had happened. So I want to write you about my feelings and give you some words to think about and console you, if possible.

Obviously the election of Trump left me breathless, like a nightmare come true. In Italy and in Europe this news made the effect of a bomb. I wouldn't want to sound disrespectful to the dead of September 11, 2001, but after 2001 even the election of Obama, the first black man elected to the White House, has done the same effect in the world, which made the election of 2016. I thought that the only real Hillary defects was his age and his not perfect health, but she would have been ideal for me, even if she's not so empathetic and sympathetic. It must admit that Trump has won not only against the Democrats but also against a lot of Republicans, some of whom, a few weeks ago, wanted to replace it.
But he won with a substantial margin, and not like Bush in 2000.

Last June, we in Europe have had the "Brexit", ie the leaving of the United Kingdom from the European Union. Some of Scots now would to leave the UK in order to be part again of the European Union as an autonomous nation. Now some Californians speak and tweet of #Calexit / #Califexit from Unites States, but I think it will not happen at all. Dear Americans, you will have to keep Trump until 2020.

For my part I offer some pics and a nice and useful text that I found on tumblr.

I wrote this because I know that these words are needed. Some of what I say you may hear from everywhere, and some you might only hear from me. I felt that these words needed to be shared, and if this helps even one person then this was time well spent.
This is bad, but it is not the worst thing that we have gone through. Hopefully we can turn this into the political upheaval needed to bring about real change. Despite whatever differences that we think divide us we need to stand together as not only a country, but a planet. We have gotten to this point through many hard fought battles, and one man, no matter how much backing he has, will not take that away. We must keep moving forward. We must dig in our heels and not give.
To Those Who are Scared:
Don’t run. Stand firm. You don’t have to protest, or do anything much different from what you’re doing now. What you need to do is educate yourself on your state and local government, and vote for people who will be able to stave off Trump’s insanity. If you are not safe where you are now, any state that voted firmly for Clinton is a good place for now. They may not be permanent strongholds, but they will provide shelter. Try not to leave the country. If everyone who is against this madness leaves, the U.S. is already lost.
To Those Who Need to Leave:
I understand that you must do what is best for you. Find safety where you can. Get your passports now if you don’t already have them. Wait until you are where you need to be before you worry about visas. Right now there are plenty of countries that you can go to on a U.S. passport without a visa.
If you think you may need to leave in the future, downsize your belongings, keep your records (medical, financial, academic, etc.) somewhere safe and accessible, and do your research. Other countries are going through political messes right now too, so “anywhere but here” may not be the best idea. Most importantly, save money. Keep your funds liquid (easily accessible) and buy gold and silver if you can.
To Those At Risk (for suicide, self harm, and depression):
Don’t do it. This election is not worth your life, or mental or physical health. If you need help, get help. Talk to someone, even if its just a friend on your favorite blog. If you can talk better to a stranger, talk to me. I will always lend an ear and whatever advice I can give. I can’t lie and say that everything will be alright, but I can say that this is not the end.
To the Angry:
Don’t explode. Don’t give those hateful people more ammunition. Stay calm. If you need to release anger, do it constructively. You need to act with purpose; not react mindlessly. If you don’t trust yourself to respond constructively to a situation, remove yourself from it. Stay safe.
To Other Countries:
This affects the whole world. There will be people leaving the U.S. and there will probably be a few coming to where you live. You don’t have to do anything more than just treat others with human decency. You can help out by doing your best to make sure that your country stands for what you believe in. Don’t worry about immigrants from the U.S. or other countries; instead make sure that something like this doesn’t happen to your country. If it already has then stay strong; you can get through it as well.
To Students:
Study hard. If it comes to the point where you may need to leave the U.S., you want to be viewed as an asset to another country. Many countries have grants and other forms of funding for international students. Work hard, and even if you don’t have the best test scores or grades, you will have a place almost anywhere. Even if you don’t need to leave, you can benefit from focusing on your studies. I know that mandatory classes are boring and sometimes hard, so try to connect them to your passions. If you like drawing, make charts and concept webs to help you illustrate the subject matters. If you like writing, lay out a study template for each section of your book that connects everything together. You can always ask for help.
To Those Under 18:
I’m sorry. I cannot begin to understand how frustrated you feel. You have been dragged into this with no chance to voice your opinion. Don’t loose hope. Understand that, although these choices are being made by others for you, your future is ultimately your own. Do your best to shape it into the future you want.
To Pet Owners:
Keep your animals healthy. Make sure they have their shots up to date and that you have current copies of their medical files. I know that its expensive, but if you need to relocate this will make the process much easier on you.
To Those With Privilege:
If you aren’t scared right now, then you have privilege. I don’t resent you for this; you cannot help how you were born or what you have achieved. All I ask is that you take the opportunities that you have and instigate change. Don’t do it because you think you owe it to the disenfranchised, or because its the “responsible thing” to do. Do it because it is what you believe in. Whether you are a republican, a democrat, a member of the green party, or something else; you cannot be happy with the election. Otherwise you would not be reading this. Don’t feel guilty, just do what’s right.
To Those Who Did Not Vote:
You messed up. Its too late to change things. Its not too late to fix it. Don’t be a spectator any more.
To Everyone:
This is not the end. We can fix this as long as we stand strong and work together. I know that this will be hard. Remember that at worst this will last four years; at best far less. This will change the relationships that the U.S. has with other countries. This will change the global economy. This will change the flow of politics forever. We can make this a good change. We have to.
Educate yourself about your government. Vote for candidates that you believe in. We are not outnumbered; our voices just aren’t as loud, but that can be changed.

You are fine. No matter what you think may be wrong, you will get through this. If you are sitting and reading these words, then your life is totally manageable. Whatever you have been through, is in your past.  Whatever you are anticipating, is in the future. The past and future are only your imagination. Right now is all that is real.  Right now, you are reading. Breathe in deeply. When you exhale, feel relief. If you breathe in again, then you are still alive. Rejoice.
You can have all kinds of complex issues, but as long as you can breathe in and out, you can deal with anything. Things are just as they are and they are perfect that way. You are perfectly placed in the world.

It is not easy to let go of your problems, but it is far more difficult to carry them with you. Now is when you are. Now is simple. Look, listen, feel and breathe. It’s all ok. It’s even a little bit wonderful. Peace.

Thank you, Steve. Your words are a great help to soothe the nerves. Calm and forceful action is needed right now by anyone who does not agree with the policies this man brought forth.
The worst thing imaginable has happened to this country: A single party will control all three branches of the government. They will also control the armed forces. They will be able to run roughshod over everyone. Their followers are not educated enough to understand this, they will stand proudly with their own suppressors. The rest of us must either fight or flee.

Thanks so much, Steve, for your words of encouragement. We shall press on and do all we can to promote Peace and Love. My hope is that after two years, the House and Senate will change back to the Democrats. It will be a scary time for us and for the world. Take care and be well, AOM

If you think you should leave, consider that Europe -- at least Western Europe -- has to take care of most of the migrants whose countries have been devastated by wars initiated by your contry. These refugees are not welcome in Eastern Europe, so you might find shelter in Hungary, Bulgaria, Poland...

glad you're appreciating my post!

let me add one thing: the experience of having a president to be ashamed abroad, here in Italy we have already tested it. He is a person that I will not even mention (and please, don't mention you too here). It was not a pleasant experience but now it's over. At least we Italians are vaccinated.

Thank you for your kind thoughts, Xersex. I've prided myself for decades on never being surprised by anything that happens in American politics (because I follow the polls and the process, and I usually have a pretty good idea what to expect)--but I was genuinely surprised by Trump's election. Not so much surprised that Trump was elected, but surprised that all the polls got it so wrong. Right up until Tuesday morning, election day, all the state-by-state polling was confidently pointing to a Clinton victory. Well, they all got it wrong, and like everybody else I was a bit shocked by the result.

It seems that Trump actually got fewer popular votes than Hillary Clinton, but he won the electoral college, because Mrs. Clinton lost states that no Democrat should ever have lost--Pennsylvania (her home state!), Wisconsin and Michigan. I don't believe the determining factor in those states was the appeal of Trump's racism, but the failure of the Democrats OR the Republicans to do anything about the ongoing economic depression prevailing there and in many other parts of the country. Trump voters who were not racists wanted a president who would break the "bipartissn" rules and think outside the "bipartisan" box, and they were desperate enough to think that Trump--as a VERY maverick (unorthodox) Republican--might actually do that. Well, we'll see.

I hope Americans and our friends abroad will not sink into despair, but keep pressing for peace, for justice, and for the health of the planet. In America, we've survived worse than Trump before, and you certainly have in Europe, too.

Thanks so much for your thoughts....most appreciated. I too was taken by surprise and still in shock. I am certainly heartened by wise words, such as Keith's closing words above, and our new California Senator Harris (don't dispair; roll up your sleeves). Thanks again, Cher ami.

Steve, thanks for sharing your heart. While the outcome of the election was not what was expected, it is how the votes fell. We must respect the process and now try to come together in order to move forward. We can and we will. We must. I am not an overly political person but I was nervous and did not want to watch the returns. It is an unexpected time, much like Brexit in the UK. But those of us who share love over hate must continue to show love and stay strong. Thanks again for sharing your heart, your concerns and your love to your blog family here in the US. Sending much love back to you!

A wise message, Steve. A kiss from a liberal at heart. I hope Trump and Pence end up shot when the LGBT revolution come.

Thanks so much for your concern, X, but I don't think we have much to worry about... Many of the Trump voters were those who elected President Obama twice, middle class people, who are now at the end of their rope. They are not reliably democrat or republican, but voted for Obama and now Trump. To call them racist is a gross exageration and a bit insulting, really, but I know that was not you. Keith's statement above was good. Others are worried and some are overwrought, but I don't think they should be. Now, a few days later it seems as if things may be balancing. Thanks again X for your goodness and concern.

Tous ces événements devraient être pour nous une bonne leçon, nous qui allons voter en 2017. À nous donc de bien réfléchir pour éviter le pire, mais si je suis conscient que le choix reste difficile...
Merci pour ce post mon cher ami
