The International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (also IDAHO, IDAHOT, or IDAHOBiT) is observed on May 17 and aims to coordinate international events that raise awareness of LGBT rights violations and stimulate interest in LGBT rights work worldwide.

The founders of the International Day Against Homophobia, established the IDAHO Committee to coordinate grass-roots actions in different countries, to promote the day and to lobby for official recognition of May 17. IDAHO's date was chosen to commemorate the decision to remove homosexuality from the International Classification of Diseases of the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1990

La Journée internationale contre l'homophobie et la transphobie (IDAHO aussi, IDAHOT ou IDAHOBiT) est observée le 17 mai et vise à coordonner des événements internationaux qui sensibilisent les violations des droits LGBT et stimuler l'intérêt pour les droits des LGBT dans le monde entier travaillent.

Les fondateurs de la Journée internationale contre l'homophobie, ont créé le Comité IDAHO pour coordonner locales actions dans différents pays, afin de promouvoir la journée et de faire pression pour la reconnaissance officielle de la date du 17 mai IDAHO a été choisie pour commémorer la décision de retirer l'homosexualité de la Classification internationale des maladies de l'Organisation mondiale de la Santé (OMS) en 1990

May 17 is the International Day Against HOmophobia, or IDAHO.  Originally a Canadian initaitive, it's been embraced around the world.  IDAHO commmemorates 17 May 1992, the day on which the World Health Organisation de-listed homosexuality as a disease.
